What Is Caspio?

Ned Pajic: Hi, let’s take a look at what you can accomplish with Caspio. Caspio, first and foremost, is a powerful do-it-yourself platform designed for anyone to log in and create enterprise-grade applications without having to write code. With Caspio’s leading platform in the low-code space, as voted by Forrester Research, you can build many different types of applications, such as custom CRM, knowledge base, eCommerce applications, healthcare, scheduling apps, real estate applications, and many, many more. You’re welcome to browser gallery of applications and even request to modify an existing application if it aligns closely to what your needs are.

How To Create An Application

So how does it work? You begin by creating a new application. You’ll then be able to build your app by importing some existing data or using a blank template. After giving your application a name, you’ll be able to see the app listed on your home screen.

To begin the development of this application, you’ll open the app and locate the objects listed on the left-hand side, everything begins on the table level. Here you will create database tables needed for your project. Since I want this table to store contact-related information, I will quickly add the fields I wish to collect and assign an appropriate data type to each field. Caspio provides a robust selection of data types that can be used depending on the use case. When done adding all of your fields, you’ll want to save the table, give it a name, and then you’ll find a table listed in the table’s menu. To populate the table with some data, we’ll need to create a web form. We’ll do this by going to data pages by using Caspio’s point-and-click data page builder, you’ll be able to create applications 10 times faster than using traditional development.

Here you can select a type of application interface you want to create. In my use case, I’ll begin with a submission form. On the next screen, because we’re trying to populate the contacts table with data, we’ll need to make sure we select it as the data source table. You’ll then proceed to the next screen and include the fields you wish to display on the form. From here, you’ll even be able to see a live preview of the form. To modify each of the fields, we’ll need to go back to Caspio and continue to the property section here. You’ll be able to quickly select each field on the left-hand side and modify it using the form element drop down on the right side. For example, if I want to turn this field into a text area to see the information that I’m typing, I’ll select the text area option and click on preview to see my changes.

If I’m happy with the preview, I’ll go back to Caspio and save my changes by clicking on finish. And with just a few clicks we have now officially created our very first application object. To publish the form, we’ll click on deploy, enable deployment status and pick from one of the deployment options provided by Caspio. If you have a website, you can copy the following and embed code paste the code inside your HTML or website builder. And then after publishing your website, you’ll be able to see this form seamlessly embed on your webpage. It’s really that simple. From here,f your application calls for additional functionality, you can go back to Caspio and continue creating additional objects needed to complete your application. What Else Can Caspio Do?

So what else can you do with the platform? Caspio’s platform allows organizations to have unlimited developer seats, meaning anyone in the organization can log in simultaneously to build new and manage existing applications. You can also set granular permissions on each user and define a level of access they’ll have once they log in. Caspio also provides a way to connect to popular online repositories to automatically and securely import and export data to Caspio at a specified time frequency. If users are more technical, they can even connect to Caspio’s database using a REST or SOAP-based API to send data back and forth in real time. You can also do this with our builtin Zapier integration. In terms of automating business procedures on your applications, Caspio makes it easy with it’s triggered actions feature, which uses a Blockly framework to fire an action based on an insert, update, or delete event.

All of the applications that you create inside your Caspio account, if needed, can be authenticated using a login screen, your applications can also have unlimited users and unlimited user roles. In addition to our built in authentication, you can also pass or protect your applications using SAML single sign on which allows you to log in to your Caspio applications using an identity provider or IDP. You also have unlimited freedom to change the aesthetics of your applications, to match the look and feel of your company, your brand. You’ll do this by going to our styles object, where you can make changes to all of the elements within your forms and reports using our WYSIWYG tools or injecting your own CSS, if you’re slightly more technical. For those looking to create a relational database application, Caspio provides a simple drag and drop interface to create one-to-one, one-to-many or many-to-many connections.

Lastly, if you’re a developer and would like to push the boundaries of your Caspio applications, you can inject industry standard languages, such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and even some SQL expressions for even more creative and dynamic workflows.
